The plane disappeared for five-and-a-half years. Records show that Montego Bay Flight 828 departed from Jamaica on April 7, 2013, and arrived in New York on Nov. 4, 2018. What happened to the plane during its mysterious absence has baffled everyone involved, especially when you consider only 3 hours and 19 mins have passed for those on board.
It flew through an unusual storm. Things were relatively calm until the plane hit a sudden storm surge that didn't show up on the radar system. Lightning and unusually strong turbulence briefly knocked out the plane's power before returning back to normal... or so they thought.
The passengers are somehow linked. Surviving the traumatic and life-altering event isn't the only thing that connects the passengers of that doomed flight; they're also bonded through strange occurrences in which those affected now hear the same mysterious voice in their head and experience strange urges that point toward a potential omnipresent being pulling the strings. Whether or not it's the work of a higher being remains to be seen. What's clear, though, is that they're now part of something bigger than they could have ever imagined.
Manifest: 3 Reasons the Government Is Totally Involved in Flight 828's Disappearance
They should all be dead. Saanvi's (Parveen Kaur) brain scans uncovered something startling about the flight: everyone on board appears to have suffered a severe stroke that brought them to the brink of death before they were somehow revived. These bizarre findings are just the tip of the iceberg, however, as Cal's blood results also reveal an unidentified marker suggesting that each passenger was physically altered by the flight.
The passengers are being spied on. After a rough 36-hour interrogation, the passengers were released to their friends and loves ones, but they're not necessarily out of the government's grasp. NSA Director Vance (Daryl Edwards) has ordered his team to keep an eye on them, meaning that every move they make will be watched. This creates an extra obstacle for Ben (Josh Dallas) and Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh), who have formed their own investigation into what happened with Flight 828 and will undoubtedly bump heads with Vance along the way.
The plane is gone. Compelled by an inexplicable urge, the survivors found themselves gathered in front of the plane at the center of this mind-boggling mystery. But before they could figure out what brought them all together again, the plane suddenly exploded. Was this the work of a supernatural force covering its tracks? Or was it an ill-timed accident?
There was a stowaway. In a surprising twist, Ben and Michaela learned that an unidentified man also made his way onto the flight. It turns out that flight attendant Bethany (Mugga) had smuggled her cousin's boyfriend Thomas (Sheldon Best) onto the flight to escape a life of persecution in Jamaica due to his sexuality. While he may have found a new life in America, he's not out of the woods just yet. Thomas has landed on Vance's Person of Interest list, meaning his troubles are only just beginning.
Manifest airs Mondays at 10/9c on NBC.
